A Cased Set Of Ten Commemorative Silver Teaspoons ‘The American Royal Family’ Maker LIH, London 1975
A commemorative set of sterling silver teaspoons made in 1975 for the 200th anniversary of American independence from British rule. The spoon bowls and handles are silver, hallmarked for London with LIH as maker, and the sculpted heads are gilded. The spoons do not appear to have been used, with no dents or signs of wear.
The exquisitely cast busts depict each of the British monarchs who reigned from the establishment of the first British colony in America in 1607 under James I until the country’s independence in 1776 under the reign of George III. Each monarch is named in the presentation case, a navy blue outer with the Royal coat of arms and padded lining which is showing signs of age and discoloration.
A delightful and unusual gift for anyone interested in American history and the special relationship between Great Britain and its colony.
